“Poetry is an exquisite expression of exquisite impressions”
Philibert Joseph Roux
Reading, analysing, discussing and performing poetry helps us to appreciate the beauty of the language as well as the cultural and historical context in which it is written.
To read a poem aloud requires an understanding of the intended meaning of the poet, it requires a sensitivity to the rhythm of each line, it requires careful and precise intonation and pronunciation, it requires confidence.
On the following pages you will find the poems studied by Y7, 8 and 9 students in their language lessons during Wimbledon Week of Women and Words. I am delighted to present their skilled and thoughtful readings.
