The joys of working abroad
We love hearing from our former students. Here, Millie, shares her experiences of studying French and Spanish at university and the opportunities this has afforded her.
Studying French and Spanish has opened a wealth of opportunities for me, both on a professional and personal level. As a direct result of my language skills, I worked as an intern at Clifford Chance in Paris, liaising with international clients, translating legal documents, and promoting well-being initiatives within the firm.

I was also employed as an English teacher in Seville, creating learning resources in order to prepare students for official Cambridge exams. I have also been credited for the translation of a short Spanish language film, Katabasis, which was sent to several international Film Festivals in 2022. This experience was particularly rewarding as I had to convey the director’s exact vision and meaning to a global audience, requiring significant reflection and communication skills.
On a more personal note, I have thoroughly enjoyed exploring many different areas of France and Spain on foreign language exchanges and during my year abroad, meeting people from all around the world, who I am still in contact with to this day!
